Piepel
1961
To shock the world you only have to tell the truth. KA-TZETNIK 135633, the branded survivor from Auschwitz, has told the story of that place, vacated by God. The idea of incinerating human beings like refuse was devilish and mad, but the sadistic cruelties fed to the victims with their water soup was immeasurably more depraved. Auschwitz was an upside down world of its own where potato peels were prized higher than diamonds, where the men in authority had been chosen for their record of perversion and crime - and where a man's highest ambition was not to die. There is not a breath of exaggeration in Piepel; Ludwig Tiene, the child murderer really existed; the experimenting doctor may still be alive in South America, and the holy rabbi of Shilev was burned along with the others. This is a book which once started must be finished and when finished can never be forgotten.

Though the author survived two years in Auschwitz, the memories of the horrors he experienced gripped him mercilessly for years until he found relief through psychotherapy. This book is the author's unforgettable memoir of that experience.
