These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Paratext Inc., d/b/a Margins (“Margins,” “we,” “us”), governing your use of the Margins app and website at margins.app (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
If you download the app through the Apple App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your use of the app itself.
If you download the app through the Google Play Store, Google's standard Terms of Service also apply to your use of the app itself.
1. The Service
Margins is a social app for tracking and sharing your reading. We may add, change, or remove features at any time.
2. Your Account
You need an account to use most of the Service. You're responsible for your account and for keeping your login credentials secure. You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your country) to use the Service.
3. Your Content
You keep ownership of the content you create on Margins — reviews, notes, highlights, posts, and profile information (“Your Content”). You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute Your Content as needed to operate and promote the Service (for example, showing your review to your followers or in shareable images you generate).
You're responsible for Your Content. Don't post anything that's unlawful, infringes someone else's rights, or is abusive or harassing.
4. Book Data
Book metadata in Margins (including titles, contributors, descriptions, images, identifiers, and pricing) may include data licensed from third-party providers. You may not copy, scrape, extract, distribute, license, sell, or otherwise transfer book metadata from the Service, or use it outside the Margins app or website. Rights in third-party data remain with the applicable providers, and access to such data ceases upon termination of your account or of Margins' underlying licenses.
5. Acceptable Use
Don't misuse the Service. In particular, don't:
- Access the Service with bots, scrapers, or other automated means
- Attempt to probe, breach, or circumvent security measures
- Use the Service for anything unlawful or fraudulent
- Interfere with other users' use of the Service
6. Our Intellectual Property
The Service — including its software, design, and branding — belongs to Margins and its licensors. These Terms don't grant you any rights in it beyond using the Service as intended.
7. Termination
You can stop using Margins and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or if we reasonably believe your use harms the Service or other users. Sections 4, 6, 8, 9, and 10 survive termination.
8. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is.” We don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that book data will be accurate or complete. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Margins will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the greater of $50 or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
10. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco, California.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll give notice through the Service or by email. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
