La Repubblica di San Magnolia è vittima dei continui attacchi dei “Legion”, droni sprovvisti di equipaggio appartenenti all’Impero. Per far fronte a tale minaccia, ha sviluppato delle armi, anche in questo caso sprovviste di piloti, con cui riesce a respingere il nemico senza subire perdite… Menzogne. Nessun essere umano è morto? Falso! Escluso dagli ottantacinque distretti, ecco l’inesistente “Distretto Ottantasei”. Qui, uomini e donne etichettati come “Eighty-Six”, come “maiali”, combattono giorno e notte in veste di “piloti fantasma”. Dopotutto, la morte di un maiale non è da considerarsi “perdita umana”. Shin e la sua squadra guidano verso morte certa, e Lena, l’Ufficiale di controllo (Handler), li controlla da remoto attraverso un sistema di comunicazione speciale.
