It had been a year since I'd come back to the one place I'd run from so long ago, and I'd managed to fly under the radar the whole time. It was just Noah and me. He was perfect. I'd brought him back so I could raise him where I'd grown up, a place I was familiar with. I'd also hoped to fix my very broken relationship with my parents. They cut me off the day they found out that I was pregnant, and things hadn't been the same between us since. That was definitely going to take some time, there was no doubt in my mind. When Noah asked me to go the Valentine's Day Dance at his school with him, I knew I had to go. He'd been through more than his share of sadness, and he was only six. As I stood there, all dressed up and eyeing myself in the mirror, looking nothing like the real me, I reminded myself of just how happy it was going to make him. I was about to face the gossiping moms, the same ones I'd worked so hard to avoid since the day school had started, but I was doing it for him. He was totally worth it. As I reached out to open the door that would take us into the school I'd gone to as a little girl, I knew things were going to change, I just didn't know how big those changes would be. Before an hour had gone by, I'd been knocked flat on my rear, called all of the gossiping moms right to me, and been faced with the one person that had torn my world apart. So much for flying under the radar.
