Emerging writer Furqan Mohamed (she/her) brings a fresh and modern perspective to her exploration of Canadian identity, Somali heritage, racism, colonialism, and family, as seen in her chapbook, A Small Homecoming. As Mohamed explains,“There is a rich tradition of oral storytelling in Somali culture that relies heavily on memory. My culture tells me that I am more than capable of sharing my own accounts, that I am a reliable narrator of my own story.”
