AB Sulaiman was born in a then remote rural village near Batu Caves in 1943. Since his early years, he has been conscious of the ethnocentric and closed nature of the Malay mind; not fully equipped to meet with the exacting demands of the modern world. He notes that post-independent Malaysia has been gov governed by leaders who harbour this traditional mentality; with disastrous results. AS a result the society and country is not doing well as evidenced by its laggard performance in social, economic and political arenas. He hopes his writing will develop awareness that all is not well in the Malay society. He hopes too that this awareness may prompt it to accept change. He sees writing as his contribution to the intellectual development of the Malay society and country as a whole
