Acceptance is the blend of science and memoir. Change is inevitable in life. Sometimes it is a minor change, such as a change in the start time of an exercise class. Every so often it comes in as a major crash forcing the individual to accept it and move forward or stay stuck. Having spent her life afraid of her own shadow, pleasing others, keeping feelings inside and depression, Phyllis Goodman was approaching the early years of retirement. There were more hours to fill, less interactions with others, less money and feeling empty and confused of what to do. Past insecurities and habits were no longer useful. Something had to give. Using the science of retirement and transitions she begins to explore making positive changes in her life as she entered retirement. Its themes are universal and speak to nearly everyone, as change is part of life.
