I have worked in a myriad of psychiatric, mental-health, and counseling settings. In that process I have learned a number of things that should be helpful to experienced professional therapists as well as those beginning their careers. As a longtime supervisor and trainer of clinicians, and director of clinical programs, I have learned a great deal from other clinicians and from clients themselves in terms of what is or is not helpful in creating positive outcomes . This book is an attempt to put most of that information down for the benefit of all—or at least, to get you to think about our practices.
