The Killing Art
1976
A prostitute is being maliciously teased by a crowd of redneck cowboys, and the woman turns to Steele for protection. Not a man to ignore a lady in distress, Steele comes to her rescue, narrowly missing being shot in the back by a timely intervention of a nearby traveling artist. Steele is now under obligation to another man – a scene he dislikes intensely. The cowboys hire a fast gun to get their revenge, but Steele and the gunslinger are prevented from having a shootout by the arrival of the sheriff. Steele is a cunning man, and by engineering a fake hold-up on a train, attacks the gunslinger and his cronies. Steele’s reputation as a fast gun spreads like wildfire. Soon he learns that glory is not for the gunfighter – only fear, violence and danger.

The Losers
2015
It all began badly, and would end even worse. For someone. Adam Steele is shot at, robbed and beaten and only by chance escapes being murdered. It is the Riker gang at work. Days later, and still enraged over the incident, Steele encounters a young couple struggling along the road to Cooper City. The girl has been brutally raped and the young man severally beaten—more of the Riker gang’s handiwork. After helping the couple reach medical aid in Cooper City, Steele learns that the parents of the youngsters are both quite wealthy and that a considerable reward will be announced. But none of the local citizenry is interested. Seems that a silver lode has been discovered nearby … and no one has time for law, or vengeance. Except Steele. Before long, the paths of the murderous Riker gang, the angry parents, the silver miners, and Steele collide in a gruesome finale as the wheels of justice grind to a surprising halt. No amount of silver would have stopped it.

But the Virginian was determined to beat the charges, and although he tried to stay within the law, others did not. Steele's War
1980
Riding the stage out of Southfields, Steele meets the woman. A mail-order bride distained for the sort of husband you hunt down with extreme prejudice. There had been a woman years before. Then came the war. Steele in a coat of blood-streaked grey in the killing ground of West Virginia. The war is the past. Might just be that this woman at the way-station is some kind of future…

Steele's War
1980
The Reverend Saul M. Jarvis wasn't much of a preacher. Morose and whiskey-sodden amongst his flock of Mescalero Apaches on the Arizona-New Mexico border. Still, he was good enough for Steele. In the Reverend's rundown chapel he planned to make Lucy his wife. Then the cavalry arrived looking for an Indian to hang. The wedding was abandoned in a hail of bullets. For Steele it was a bloody reminder of his war ... the bitter time after Shiloh Hill when he'd been dodging death through all the livelong day…

Steele's War
1981
There’s a hardware store in the small Texas town of White Rock. Proprietors – Adam Steele and wife. The Virginian has settled down to a quiet life. Until the day that raiders hit the bank next door and Steele rides with the posse in pursuit. He’s ridden with a posse before. Back in the war, Steele was the man who hunted down a bunch of Reb renegades who’d been looting from their own side. That was a chase that ran all the way to the bloody battlefield of Chancellorsville…

Steele's War
1981
Steele.
Storekeeper, settled and accepted. Him and his wife. Until the stranger rode into town. A hard, silent man with an old newspaper photo all crumpled up in his hip pocket. A photo that just happened to show something from his past. That was when Steele realized that there were two kinds of past. The past a man tries to forget, that forces itself into his sweat-soaked nightmares. Memories of blood, pumping, hot, vivid red on Confederate gray. Of triumphant Rebel yells that rise horribly to bone-chilling screams. And then there is the past you didn’t know about. Until it rears up, sudden as a diamondback and strikes to kill. AT LAST, THE LEGENDARY HERO COMES TO PICCADILLY PUBLISHING, THE HOME OF GREAT WESTERN FICTION!

The Big Prize
1981
Mesa, Colorado, was a nice town.
Settled, growing, thriving. God-fearing on a Sunday, money-making of a weekday, the citizens grew carefully richer, and their life had a pattern to it. A pattern that Adam Steele didn’t fit. Not when he rode in, sweaty and shabby after too long on the trail, leading a gelding with two dead men lashed across the saddle. Mesa, Colorado, drew back, squeamish and shocked at the blood dried black round the gunshot wounds, at the flies and the smell. Until the news got around that there was a fortune buried somewhere out there in the hills. And only one man had the map of its location. Then the niceness and the manners were stripped away to the bare bones of greed and hatred. And the citizens remembered how to kill.

Accord, Wyoming. To Steele it looked like some sort of ghost town. Nothing moving, no people, no horses, not even a cur dog. Nothing except the hot dry wind blowing down the one street, raising a little dust. His horse’s hooves echoed lough as he rode warily through. Then, suddenly, Steele found people. A crowd gathered on the far side of town, watching. Under a tree a young fear-sweated cowhand waited, his wrists bound. From the tree dangled a rope. Steele was just in time for the hanging, just in time to get involved in a range war that would stain too much bad blood across the good land. By George G.
