What kind of scholarly work would help move the country forward and give our people hope? The Ateneo de Manila University Loyola Schools present, as their Agenda for Hope, five key areas of engagement where we could bring about positive sharing prosperity, democratizing governance, promoting sustainable development, preserving and transforming Philippine identity and culture, and inspiring our youth. To inspire the youth, and all others who care for, work with, and mentor them, we draw on the wisdom and experiences of adults who are involved in young people's formation and development—their teachers. This anthology is a collection of short essays written by public school teachers that depict not only their difficult, but also rewarding lives teaching English to Filipino students. The teachers' narrations affirm the idea that teaching is a noble profession and is necessary for nation building.
