Agustín Monsreal (Mérida, 1941) is one of Yucatán's major living writers. He built his career in Mexico City where he developed a unique style in short story writing, masterfully combining intelligent humor with subtle social commentary. Although he's best known for his short stories, he's also an accomplished poet and was declared first finalist in Mexico´s prestigious Premio Nacional de Poesía Aguascalientes, in 1978, among other important awards throughout his career. An influential workshop maestro, he has published at least fifteen books of fiction and four of poetry. In March 2014, Yucatan´s international book fair (FILEY) was dedicated to him.
