Alexander Coburn Soper III, Ph.D. (Princeton University, art history, 1944), was an art historian specializing in Asian art. He served as professor at Bryn Mawr College and the Institute of Fine Arts of New York University, and edited the academic journal Artibus Asiae from 1958 until his death. In 1990, the Smithsonian Institution awarded him the ninth Charles Lang Freer Medal for distinguished career contributions made by scholars in the history of art.
