Currently working on a historical fiction trilogy set in the Spanish colonies in the fifteenth century, Andrea (Andy), the daughter of Irish immigrants, was born in Stockport in the north west of England. Andy spent 24 years working in the British Civil Service, working her way up to a senior position before, in 2003, walking away from her fat salary, fast car and stilettos to move to a banana plantation at the foot of Spain's highest mountain on a sub-tropical island 500km off the west coast of Africa. Andy embarked on a new career as a freelance travel writer. In time, she became an award-winning member of the British Guild of Travel Writers; a destination expert for The Telegraph, and author of the Pocket Rough Guide Tenerife & La Gomera. Widely published in the UK travel media, she and her husband, Jack, have co-authored four Tenerife guide books under The Real Tenerife brand which have sold to more than 30 countries around the world. Along the way, she became an overseas consultant for a UK-based, specialist Slow Travel tour operator, designing and implementing itinerant walking holidays across Europe. In 2017 Andy moved to Portugal to live on a small farm south of Lisbon and in 2021, relocated to the UK where she now lives in a small village in Somerset. In 2021 Andy published a memoir of her life in Tenerife, The Banana Road.
