
Anwar Masood (Urdu: انورمسعود) is a Pakistani poet best known for his humorous poetry, however, his works include other genres as well. He writes in Punjabi, Urdu and Persian languages. He was born on 8th November 1935 in Gujrat and got his education in Lahore and then in Gujrat where his family moved back after some years in Lahore. He opted in Medical Sciences at first but quit science and migrated into Arts and received Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction from Zamindar College Gujrat. He was the editor of college's magazine Shaheen. Due to financial troubles he quit education for some time and began teaching in Government Islamia High School, Kunjah where he underwent the experience described in his famous poem 'ambri'. He then continued education and got admission in Oriental College Lahore where he obtained Master's degree in Persian language in 1962 and got a gold medal. He met his soul mate in Persian classes and got married in 1965. He has been teaching as a lecturer in different colleges in Punjab since 1962 and got retired in 1996. He was also the visiting faculty of Government College University, Lahore. He was given Pride of Performance award by Government of Pakistan on 23 March 2000. So far he has written 15 books in total in Urdu and Punjabi.
