For most of his young life, Benny watched from a glass container as friends and family members squeaked for mercy before being strangled and swallowed whole by a snake. And you thought you had it bad. You see, Benny is a mouse. A mouse wanting freedom. A mouse wanting purpose. A mouse wanting to be happy. Is that so much to ask for? Yes. Yes it is. But after being rescued by a family of rats, it seems Benny will finally be able to achieve his dream. With their newfound freedom, the mice take on the mission of destroying fear and poverty through the creation of the Kindness Pile: a beer can where mice contribute a portion of what they harvest. However, the rats, who are naturally greedy creatures, have other plans. Throw in a monstrous opossum, a bottle of whiskey, a murderous affair, a famine, and a harsh winter into the mix, and it isn’t long until Benny wonders if leaving the glass prison was such a good idea.
