At twenty-one, June Clark knew exactly who she was and exactly what her life would look like: she’d work in a salon for five years to earn money to buy photography equipment, she’d travel the world, certain she’d always be the girl everyone relied on because she always planned on being self-assured, and she knew that Cody Ponds would always be the one for her. But when her sister’s husband unexpectedly died, June’s world got turned on it’s axis. Between asking Cody for a divorce, and still working in the salon, she doesn’t have time for herself: she lacks passion, friends, and identity outside of who she is to other people.
On the outside, Cody looks like a TikTok lumberjack, complete with a beard, calloused hands, and muscles to spare. Inside? He’s a shell of himself at best. On the brink of losing his wife and kids, Cody comes face to face with a decision: keep doing the same thing and lose his family, or shape up and try for a chance at rescuing the only thing he’s ever really loved: June.
When Cody overhears June confiding to her mom about losing her identity through the years, an idea sparks life in Cody’s mind: show up where she needs him to, and while he’s at it, propose a six-week trial period where they salvage their bond. Is six-weeks enough to prove that he’s still the man she fell in love with? Will Cody be able to heal? Will June be able to trust him?
Told between Cody and June’s points of view, Begin Again explores the inescapable ripples of grief that touch our lives and weaves threads of hope throughout the challenges that we can’t outrun.
