I went to high school in the Midwest of the United States in the early 1980s, coming of age at a time when it was very difficult to be gay. Today I'm in a civil union with my partner of 16 years. What a difference a few decades makes! I've been a professional journalist for 25 years and "The Summer of 1983: A Novel" is my first book. It's part coming of age/part gay romance.
