Black Girl Magic Lit Mag is a literary magazine created to address the lack of diverse, non-majority voices and characters in speculative fiction, especially Black women’s voices. Black Girl Magic Lit Mag believes that by showcasing stories featuring Black female voices and characters we can create a reflection of ourselves in the literature that we love, in a world where our images are constantly controlled, shaped, and distorted by those outside of our experiences. This issue features a range of stories spanning Paranormal, Steampunk/Horror, and Zombies, as well as interviews of the authors.

Celebrate Black Speculative Fiction Month and Halloween with Black Girl Magic Lit Magazine's first ALL HORROR ISSUE.

Black Girl Magic Lit Mag is a quarterly literary magazine of speculative fiction featuring Black female main characters. In Issue 5, our all science fiction issue, it is entitled New Year, New Worlds. In For the Best we see a story of racial upheaval and tests of racial purity to determine who can live in the United States, harkening to a futuristic paper bag test. What happens to those who can’t pass? In Hybrid, we glimpse a future full of technological advances as well as danger of the worse kind. What happens when you ignore your own intuition in order to reveal long held secrets? What if your husband went on a routine space mission and all communication was lost? And after establishing communication, what would happen if the crew came back somehow different? For better or for worse, that’s the situation that our main character finds herself in, in Anomalies.
