In Perrault's fairy tale, Bluebeard married and murdered seven wives; of the six former wives of Dr. Felix Schaad, five are still alive. (...) In a series of poignant flashbacks, Frisch shows us a man whose relationships have always been transitory and mutually unfulfilling, who carries already a sense of guilt and failure so deep that no verdict can erase it.
