‘Ride or Die’ is the bull rider’s motto. Neither is easy when you only have 8 seconds to decide your fate. I’ve learned my life’s lessons from hard living and poor decisions, but all that has given me is a lonely life. I should have died a thousand deaths on that one-ton bull. He’s cheated me twice. I’m too old for this sport. It’s beaten my body up, but I refuse to let it spit me out. One early morning phone call is all it took to scare me. Now my son needs a better life, and I’ll ride until I make it happen, or die trying. A day of reckoning is coming—I know it. I hope I survive it.
