The small town of Briar Reef is shaken to its core when one of its leading citizens is found dead in the woods with her face missing. Detective Celia Sparks is working her first murder case in the town where she had come to escape but this big city cop has her work cut out for her. The more she uncovers the more questions they are than answers. In a town that’s known for burying its secrets how will she ever find the truth?

Fresh off the first murder case to hit the small town of Briar Reef in more than fifty years, Detective Celia Sparks finds herself knee-deep in another mysterious murder. Everyone in town knew Melissa Sherry was stepping out on her husband, including the man himself. After losing his high-paying job and having to take a job at the meat packing plant just to put food on the table, Gil was already a man beaten; now, everyone he knew was laughing at him behind his back. So, when his wife was found staked out on the main road leading into town in the dead of night with an unflattering word carved into her chest, of course, everyone thought it was his doing. But Celia has learned from the last case that nothing in this town is ever as it seems.

Just as Detective Starks starts to settle down after solving her second murder case in the small town she calls home, another mystery unravels. It starts with an explosive text message to a teenage girl that lands the high school coach in hot water. But just as the town is focused on this latest piece of gossip, a murder is committed at the country inn.
