Before Brocka, Filipino movies were simply copycats of Western cinema. He showed that it was possible to make movies that were truly Filipino. He made movies that entertained, challenged, and made the audience think. Brocka's example showed directors, actors, and others in the entertainment industry how films could be used to call people's attention to the troubles of the country for the betterment of our society.
