The Soddit
2003
In the grand tradition of the blockbusting parody Bored of the Ring, comes this uproarious literary spoof of Tolkien's other (much shorter) masterwork, The Hobbit . It has already sold 80,000 copies in hardcover—and is still going strong. Tolkien was never this funny—and that's why we need this delicious parody. It follows the adventures of Bingo "Sac" Grabbings, a rather unremarkable Soddit of Upper Middle Earth. He ventures forth (despite very sore and swollen feet indeed!) alongside Gandef the Coughing Wizard and a band of psoriasis-scratching, who-knows-what's-in-the-pipe-puffing dwarves, as they set out to relieve the haughty dragon Smug of his ill-gotten gold. With the blockbuster box office success of the Lord of the Rings films, and the continued interest in the original books, the time is ripe for someone to poke a bit of good-natured fun at the phenomenon that is The Hobbit, and this hilarious satire succeeds brilliantly. Written by an acknowledged expert on all things Tolkien, it both salutes and skewers the classic novel, reinventing the tale of a courageous little being whose amazing persistence—and more than a bit of Soddit luck—belies his diminutive stature.

The Sellamillion
2004
It’s no parodies sellamillion! After the huge success (100,000 copies) of The Soddit, it’s time to poke more fun at Tolkien. So The Lord of the Rings swept the Oscars—all the more reason to continue to tweak, spoof, and lampoon the cult of Tolkien. Despite its title, The Sellamillion isn’t a satire of The Silmarillion ; how could it be? Though every one of the author’s fans has a copy on the shelf, on the shelf is where it’s stayed; almost no one actually managed to read past page three. The fun here lies in the parody of everything Tolkien created as he worked on his famous The History of the Elderly Days. Early missing drafts of the novels. Correspondence between the writer and publisher on whether the magic talisman should be a Bellybutton Stud of Doom rather than a Ring of Power. And, most hilarious of all, an experimental version of Lord of the Rings in the style of Dr. Seuss. Whether you love the original trilogy and (maybe especially) if you hate it, this will have you laughing non-stop.

Bored of the Rings
1969
A quest, a war, a ring that would be grounds for calling any wedding off, a king without a kingdom, and a little, furry "hero" named Frito, ready—or maybe just forced by the wizard of Goodgulf—to undertake the one mission which can save Lower Middle Earth from enslavement by the evil Sorhed ... Luscious Elfmaidens, a roller-skating dragon, ugly plants that can soul-kiss the unwary to death—these are just some of the ingredients in the wildest, wackiest, most irreverent excursion into fantasy realms that anyone has ever dared to undertake.
