The priests tell us that our world is constructed of the four elements, that the power of the elemental realms shaped reality aeons ago, that the balance they've struck is essential to our very survival. Where, then, is this darkness coming from? How has the balance been broken? Caymus, a young disciple of the Order of the Conflagration, had devoted his life to becoming a Master of his Temple, a priest of the realm of fire. Talented, confident, and popular among his friends, there seemed no reason he wouldn't become one of the youngest masters the Temple had ever seen.
The night before his ascension to the highest ranks of his fellows, however, changed it was the night the monsters came. Otherworldly creatures, beings forged of some ancient darkness, appeared without warning throughout the lands of Tebria and beyond. Nobody knew what they were, where they came from, or what they wanted; they seemed only to want to destroy.
It was the night that thousands died; it was the night that the elemental balance was destroyed.
Caymus needs to understand the malevolant force that drives these creatures, to drive it back from his world and protect the people he cares about, but to do so, he'll have to be stronger—braver—then he's ever been before. He'll need to venture out from the safety of his once-safe Temple. He'll need to learn to depend on those closest to him. And he'll also need to discover the secrets of an ancient warrior who seems, somehow, connected to him from across the The Knight of the Flame
