Greetings from Kentucky. I'm not from here—originally the northeast—but ended up here after a following a convoluted path that led me through four continents (plus Oceana) and more than a dozen countries. My travels often make their way into my books in some form. I like to set my stories in places I've been to add extra authenticity to them. I'm a school counselor and have spent my professional life working with kids and adolescents, so I feel like I know them pretty well. They are the ones who star in all of my fiction. They are the ones I write for. And I kinda, sorta wish I was like Indiana Jones or one of the heros in a Clive Cussler book and those are the sorts of stories I write. I call it (mostly) realistic action adventure. Within the pages of my books you'll find car chases, booby traps, fights of all sorts, explosions, and honorable and despicable characters (and some you aren't so sure about). There are no zombies, vampires, werewolves, or tragic love stories. The world will not have ended. There's no swearing, graphic violence, or anything else that would make you question whether my books are appropriate for your sixth grader. These books are fun to write—I'm just as anxious as the reader to find out what happens to Benji next. My hope is that my stories will find their way into the hands of kids who enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them. Have a wonderful, stupendous, fantastic, awesome, adventurous day.
