Hired Killer

"Quite," Banks told Taylor. "In your case, though, I will be your FBI handler, taking care of you and getting you anything that you need to get the job done." Special Agent Niki Banks paused, narrowing her eyes at Taylor. "What?" Banks asked. "No lewd remarks about that? Something about handling, or how I'm going to take care of you?" "Nah, I thought you would do a better job of it than I ever could," Taylor replied. "Besides, I'm only after empty relationships that have no meaning, where we both go away happy, so there's no need for any handling like that. From you, anyways." "So, what does that make me?" Taylor paused to take a bite from his food, which consisted of some bacon and syrup-covered waffles. "A toxic attitude with delusions of awesomeness in high heels and a need to feel dominant all wrapped up in an attractive gift package that smells like a body that's been left out to rot in the Zoo for a week." Banks' eyebrows shot up. "Excuse you?" Another bite of his food from his plate was taken before he continued. "I'm sorry, do you need me to make it more specific? Here, try this one then. You look like Eva Longoria, except more brawn than brains, probably can't spell Latina and obviously you don't care about showers. Which is okay; the government only wants you for your brawn anyway." Banks narrowed her eyes. "Yeah, I smell like the three cretins you needed me to get rid of for you. Between the stench of fear and gasoline, I guess that does make for a pretty foul smell." Taylor shrugged. "I showered at least." Banks scowled at him. "You're a jackass." "Correction," Taylor said with a grin. "I'm a jackass that can kill - what did you call them? Cryptids. A jackass that can kill Cryptids that's living here in the US, no less. "Oh, great," Banks grumbled. "And here I am, stuck with a Jason Momoa wannabe Cro-Magnon Neanderthal with slightly better dental hygiene and a god-complex." She sighed. "I don't get paid enough for this shit." His name is Taylor McFadden, survivor of 83 trips into the ZOO. Now, he's retired, and yet his country needs his skills to save people in the country he calls home. Can he build a company, put down roots and still bring the pain when the FBI calls? When they tag him as The Cryptid Assassin, they weren't wrong. For monsters that go bump in the night, he is death incarnate. Go up and click 'Read for Free' or 'Buy Now' and learn how one messed up soldier is America's greatest asset in the ongoing war against the Alien Goop. NOTE: There is cussing in the book. In fact, there is a LOT of cussing in this book. There are consenting adults having sex (mostly behind closed doors) and a cynical ex-soldier just wanting to build a business in Sin City. Not that Sin City... Las Vegas!

"Vickie, would you mind answering that?" Taylor asked, soldering gun already in hand and glasses in place to keep him from blinding himself. "Sure," she said, picking the receiver up from the cradle. "Who the hell has a landline these days?" "We the hell do," Taylor grumped. "Answer the phone." He could almost hear her eyes rolling as she pressed the receiver to the side of her head. "McFadden's Mechs, how can I help you?" It wasn't a great name, but he wasn't going to be complaining, turning to his work, but keeping an ear out for the conversation, or the one side of it that he could hear. "What?" Vickie asked. "No, I'm not a secretary. Why, are you a janitor? I mean, yeah, all janitors are men, right, so all men must be janitors, are you kidding me right now?" Taylor raised an eyebrow. Maybe work could wait. He wanted to hear what Vickie had to say to whomever was calling her. "Yes, it was a sexist question, thanks for asking," Vickie replied. "Now, do you want to try again? Hi, this is Vickie from McFadden's Mechs, how can I help you not be a sexist a-hole this afternoon?" Well, that was one way to go about it. Taylor could hear the man on the other line laughing, which was better than them getting offended and hanging up, sure, but Taylor pushed himself up from where he was working and walking over to where she was still on the phone. Special Agent Niki Banks has called in a favor, and now Taylor has a young hacker with an attitude as an employee. Along with new monsters to kill, a business to get off the ground, a relationship with an annoying FBI Handler to ... deal with Taylor is becoming a surrogate male figure for a role he didn't want. But may be the best man for the job. Go up and hit 'Buy Now' or 'Read for Free' and find out if Taylor needs to hide, or Niki's cousin has met her match.

"Do you think he doesn't care about the hours he's putting in?" Vickie asked. "I get it," Bobby responded, clearly annoyed. "And I'm not saying Taylor doesn't care about the work. I'm only saying that…well, it's not like him to be late." Vickie shrugged and returned to her work. "The chances are he went to that breakfast place the two of you love so much." "It's called Il Fornaio, and it's not only a breakfast place," the mechanic replied and resumed his task. "Actually, the fact that they serve breakfast is incidental. They're an Italian place, so they serve Italian food for all three meals of the day. And a couple more meals too if you're a hobbit." "You're Korean, though, so why don't you go more for the Asian food?" "I'm Chinese-American, thank you very much," Bobby said. "And it’s not a trait that defines who I am or what I eat. I happen to like me some authentic Italian food, so there." "Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you." She sounded genuine in her apology. "Still, your guys' obsession with that place is a little unhealthy, both for your bodies and your minds." "Hey, don't knock it until you try it," he snapped. "Head on over there for the breakfast special and you'll see what all the fuss is about." Vickie raised an eyebrow. "Breakfast special, huh? Is that what you older guys call Netflix and Chill?" Bungees turned away from his work again and looked at her with his eyes narrowed and a confused expression on his face. "Oh, come on," Vickie said, exasperated. "Don't tell me you don't know what Netflix and Chill is code for. It's been around since before I was born. People have used it for decades." "Not where I come from," the heavyset mechanic told. "Where is that," Vickie huffed, "the f#K#& Stone Ages?" Taylor and the rest of the crew are back. It's time to kill some Cryptids, and explain life and how it works to each other. So long as that discussion is not between Taylor and Special Agent Banks. The Cryptids have started to kill a large amount of humans in the upper mid-west. Banks' bosses told her not to call in the Cryptid Assassin... He's too expensive. Now, the showdown between Taylor and the creatures will stop when one or the other is dead... And it isn't looking good for Taylor. Go up and click 'Read for Free' or 'Buy Now' and find out the latest antics happening to Taylor McFadden... The Cryptid Assassin.
