George Curtis Gerling (1902-1991) was a Rochester newspaperman and author of Smugtown, U.S.A., a 1957 book that was extremely critical of Rochester society. In addition to his book and his newspaper writing for the Rochester Sun, Gerling founded Empire State Weeklies, Inc, a community newspaper publisher, in 1945.
