I earned my Master's Degree at Harvard University's Graduate School of Education in 1995 and a doctorate at the University of Alabama in 2003. I studied fiction writing with James White at the University of South Alabama and in 2003, was awarded 2nd Place in Playboy's College Fiction Writing Contest. Currently, I teach, and write in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. My favorite writer is Jerry Spinelli, and I keep one of his books on my desk at all times for inspiration. Elephant Summer was a work of passion that I hope influences and encourages younger generations and inspires a love of wildlife. I also spend time with my dad on his site at baseballfarming.com. and it was his site that fostered the idea for GeorgeAnn Baseball, which includes the same three friends from GeorgeAnn, Texas (one of the boys learns he is adopted) and encompasses a re-creation of a famous baseball game played between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Milwaukee Brewers (Hank Aaron was a rookie) from May 26, 1959.
