Serena rises to her frightened rooster who flees for the woods. No one should enter the Black Wood. She heard the tales of what lives there. The bird reroutes and she finds a loud ruckus stirring across her small forest neighborhood. Salem, Massachusetts has always been an eerily quiet place to live. An angry mob drags someone out and claim him to be a witch, Ambrose. He falls into the snow after they stab him. Serena finds him alive and he begs her to take him to the wood. She doesn't want to take him there to bury him. But he begs her to hurry, with the help of a horse to drag him she complies. His fatal wound heals to a scar, something that should not be able to be recovered from. He is horribly weak after the experience. Now the town is on a witch-hunt and Serena has to help hide him without being far from the wood. The story evaluates the dark history of the witch hunts of the town of Salem, Massachusetts. Dark Winter is speculative, magical, and descriptively creepy. FMC, Single Perspective, Friends to Enemies, Slow burn, Chase and play, Fall for the Villain
