Southern California, where I lived for many years, is the setting of my first two novels, Valley of Saint Anne and Himba Pond Dance. Both books are informed by the atmosphere, landscape, landmarks, politics and culture of the place, while the subjects they deal with are universal. My third novel, A Girl With A Bad Reputation, is set in Newburgh, New York, and New York City. The novel is subtitled "One girl's journey to young-adulthood in the 1960s." Just as Southern California informs my first two novels, so the decade of the '60s informs A Girl With A Bad Reputation . Unlike my first two novels, which feature the interweaving of many characters' stories, A Girl With A Bad Reputation is the story of a single female protagonist, Colleen Hanrahan, and is told entirely from her point of view.
