
David Jaher received a BA from Brandeis University and an MFA from New York University, where he was the recipient of the Johnson Fellowship. His first book, The Witch of Lime Street, was an NPR “Best Book of 2015,” which called the work “utterly spellbinding.” His debut was a starred Publishers Weekly Book of the Week, an Amazon Book of the Month, and is currently (2023) an Amazon Editor's choice for Best History. The Witch of Lime Street has received praise in many newspapers and publications, including The New York Review of Books, which called it a “stunning and brilliantly written account of the battle between the Great Houdini and the blonde Witch of of Lime Street,” as well as The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Kirkus Reviews, BookPage, Library Journal, and Booklist. This American Life featured the author and book in their 2023 episode, “Séance Fiction.” David Jaher is currently completing Cry Havoc!—his second work of American history for Crown/Random House.
