Terror in the Bayous. When she stopped for gas a short distance from St. Anne Manor, the station attendant tried to dissuade Cary from proceeding to her destination. Several children had recently disappeared from the village, he explained, paralleling mysterious incidents that had occurred at the manor many years ago. Before she'd spent twenty-four hours at the house in the bayous, Cary had begun to take the attendant's advice more seriously: her ex-roommate was behaving very strangely; Cary found a threatening note attached to a dead rooster in her bed; and she also discovered what looked like a book of secret rituals, written in Latin, in a hidden drawer. Then the very man who had told her to stay away from St. Anne Manor was found murdered—his throat cut to pieces. The villagers were convinced it was the work of "loup-garou"...the werewolf!
