This book is an attempt to educate first-year teachers about the potential pitfalls of teaching in the Mississippi Delta. The eight authors collaborating on the project have tried to focus on different methods that have worked in past years, without burdening the reader with countless details of every hardship and success. We do not claim to be experts; however, the experience of teaching in the Delta has taught us valuable lessons that we think may prove to be beneficial to future Teacher Corps volunteers. This book is designed to give future first-year teachers a game plan. In celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Corps, this book is proudly given to the State of Mississippi by everyone who has been involved with this program since the charter members of the 1990 Class anxiously departed for their assigned school districts.
