From Amazon: "Beautifully written, powerful, heartfelt, insightful and inspiring ... The Danny Baker Story is a testament to hope" - Nick Bleszynski, author of the bestsellers 'Shoot Straight, You Bastards!', 'You'll Never Take Me Alive' and 'Bloodlust.' In October of 2013 I launched the Depression Is Not Destiny Campaign—a worldwide mental health initiative to inspire sufferers of the illness to never give up on happiness. It centres around a video blog following my quest to get my fictional novel "I will not kill myself, Olivia" published, and will hopefully culminate in the moment when I am offered a contract. Prior to writing my novel, I suffered through life-threatening bouts of depression, and I want people to know what I went through, to understand how I recovered, and to be there with me when I hopefully achieve my dream of becoming a published author. If and when it happens, I want everyone to see how overwhelmingly happy I’ll be, I want everyone to literally see the tears of joy streaming down my cheeks, because it will show them that depression is beatable, and that even the most severely afflicted can overcome it and go on to live happy, healthy, fulfilling lives. I think seeing me come full circle—from on the cusp of suicide to achieving my dream—will give others hope that they can do the same. The Danny Baker Story is an honest account of my plight with depression and the alcoholism, drug abuse, medicine-induced psychosis, near-suicide attempts and multiple hospitalisations it led to before my eventual recovery in 2012. I wrote it so that sufferers of depression could realise that they are not alone – that there are other people out there who have gone through the same excruciating misery, and who have made it through to the other side. I wrote it so that I could impart the lessons I learned on the long, rocky, winding road that eventually led to recovery – so that people could learn from my mistakes as well as my triumphs – particularly with regards to relationships; substance abuse; choosing a fulfilling career path; seeking professional help; and perhaps most importantly, having a healthy and positive attitude about depression that enables recovery. And of course, I wrote it so that followers of my campaign could get to know me better – so that they’ll understand why I’ll be so emotional if and when my novel gets published, and rejoice with me in that wonderful moment of bliss.
