You can never leave the past behind if it refuses to be let go. When Alex Holmes returns to the coastal town of Nerimbah in 2001 for a funeral, it brings three friends together again after 20 years. As innocent as it may seem, reuniting with Janice McKenna and Dennis ‘Beau’ Beaumont dredges up deep troubles from the past. But someone is stalking their every move and Alex is faced with negotiating the dangers of the present as the story unfolds to reveal the intertwined lives of their past. In 1980 Alex had finished University and come to Nerimbah to surf and stay with Beau and his girlfriend Janice. Before long, he is unwittingly drawn into Beau’s life of drug dealing, crime and conflict with the bosses. Relationships are stretched to breaking point. Police implicate Beau in a shocking drug fuelled murder and he is set up to take the blame, or worse. It is left up to Alex to chart the way out for them all. This story is set over 20 years and captures the innocence of a coastal life in conflict with a drug culture at war with itself and the authorities, where the events of the past collide with the present in a deadly chain of consequences.
