Elonian warrior Nieve isn’t thrilled about being asked to mentor a prophesied ‘chosen one’ who can’t tell a sword from a hairbrush. Yet the king’s command is absolute, and time’s running short. Unfortunately, physicist Lea, the reluctant ‘chosen,’ doesn’t believe in fixed fates or wacky wizardry, and Nieve’s warnings about the shadows—where only the enemy dares to walk—fall on deaf ears. An unprovoked attack at night finally convinces Lea that Nieve’s not some raving lunatic. Soon, she throws herself into this new reality that hails her as a hero.
