When Dokked wants us to climb into the minds of her characters, her first person narrators are often purposely unreliable - delusional, lost, frightened. In these natural human flaws, these vulnerabilities and imperfections, is the emotional bridge that ties us to the story. We can accept that the characters aren't perfect, but can they be trusted? It's upon this edge of uncertainty that we are encouraged to read on.
