I had a dream a long time ago, to write a book. I wasn’t sure what kind of book, but I knew I wanted to write one. Then, “life” just got in the way. I know it often happens to the best of us, but I tucked the book idea in the back of my mind, and soldiered on. Just three years ago, I opened a fortune cookie. It read: “You have a way with words. Some day you should write a book.” Really. It did. That is exactly what it said, and do you know why I remember it? Because I taped that fortune cookie to my computer monitor at work, and for the past three years, I have read that message at least once a day. Some days, I just stared at it. In January 2013, I decided it was now or never. I was just recovering from turning fifty a few years back, and it struck me, that I still had a few unaccomplished dreams. I figured I better get to it. So I did. I sat down with only a vague idea of who my main characters were, and an even MORE vague idea of what the story was or would be. Somehow, along the way, it just developed, and on some days, simply poured out of me. I still am not sure where it came from, although I have my suspicions that God had something to do with it. It took me all of 2013 to write it, and the first 4 months of 2014 to edit, re-write, edit, re-write, edit again, more rewriting, and then, finally, publish it. It was the easiest, and yet, the hardest thing I ever accomplished in my life (outside of raising two children.) But, it was immensely satisfying when it was finished. I continue to write in my spare time, travel, bicycle, swim, read, and am currently playing a lot with photography. Maybe there will be a book of my photographs in the near future!
