When Kate Stevens and her good friend, Vivi Lawrence, are invited to a high society benefit in an exclusive part of Sage Hills, little do they know the mysterious events about to unfold. The annual Piece de Resistance Gala, a costume ball capped by a big-ticket scavenger hunt and silent auction, will feature a crocheted one-of-a-kind gown created by Kate, a nationally known author and designer. Kate attends the gala dressed as Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With the Wind, while Vivi, in her inimitable style, is disguised as Catwoman. The frivolity of the evening turns deadly serious the next day when priceless jewelry turns up missing, and Vivi is at the center of the criminal investigation. Kate is confident her friend is innocent, and she sets out to solve the mystery before jail doors slam shut in Vivi's face. But every clue seems to lead down a Texas-size rabbit hole. Helping Kate is Peter Mathews, the dashing Fort Worth PD homicide detective who is also her "more than just a friend."
