Remember the mailman who landed a 250-pound gyrocopter on the lawn of the US Capitol Building in a protest of big money in politics?
That would be me.
The gyrocopter carried a dangerous cargo - 535 letters, one addressed to every member of Congress calling them out for the greed and legalized graft that rules US politics.
After a four-month stint in federal prison, Doug wrote the two halves of one memoir that define his quest. The first half covers what led to the civil disobedience - a political awakening, personal tragedy, dark depression, the idea of a dangerous stunt as an alternative to suicide, betrayal to the federal police (by his younger brother), emotional recovery through learning to fly, planning the message, and executing the civil disobedience completely alone.
A sane and emotionally healthy man made the flight.
The second half covers what happened after the landing, arrest, release to home confinement, media firestorm which the activist tried to direct to the reform movement, felony charges with the risk of nine years in prison, new friends and allies stepping up to defend him against a vengeful prosecutor with no respect for the truth.
This is an exciting, personal look at a fascinating character with a message - one he delivered by gyrocopter and continues to deliver.
