My talisman keeps me safe from the pull of the mistletoe to find my fated mate. After the loss of my parents and my younger brother on Christmas Eve, I went to a witch and asked for something to block myself from finding my mate. She gives me a talisman but with a warning. "Your mate is strong. She will find you at Christmas. The talisman has limited powers to protect you and her love is too powerful. It won't stop her." "Then I'll just have to stay away from people during Christmas." Will it work? Unlikely. And the pitying looks the witch gives me says I'm fooling myself.
