Stephen Hastings has led an extraordinarily interesting life, which he describes with literary skill which is apparently a family trait (his cousin is the noted military historian Max Hastings). Hastings participated in many of the SAS's classic raids across the desert, playing a role in shaping that famous unit's expertise and esprit. Hastings devotes considerable detail to this fascinating campaign about which too little is available in English.
