For most of its history, Duck, North Carolina was a small, quiet community of duck hunters. Today, tourists greatly outnumber the natives and a majority of the properties are owned by absentee landlords. Using an informal, conversational style, Mercier (Christopher Newport U.) describes the effects of development begun in the 1980s which transformed this village into a boom town. The volume does not contain bibliographical references. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
