Dušan Dim (1972) lives and creates and dreams in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He is a former rock'n'roll DJ whose debutant novel Distortion about a bunch of rebellious teenagers in Ljubljana received national award Večernica for the best youth novel of the year. The book was later twice reprinted and succesfully screened in the feature-length movie with the same name. His second novel Red Moonlight (2008) is a sticky mystery tale which recreates a metaphor of a detective quest to vividly express the story about a personal loss, memories of love almost forgotten and subtle comparisons of two realities: the time before the wane of Yugoslavian socialism, and life in post-transitional Slovenia. The main protagonist is a cynical mid-thirties advertising professional, whose routine life is shattered when he attends the funeral of his long-lost friend. The novel was short-listed for Kresnik, Slovenian national award for best novel of the year. In 2011 author finished his third novel Sorry, Your Life is Unavailable which was published by main Slovenian publishing house Mladinska knjiga. A dystopian science-fiction novel is marked by a very idiosyncratic approach – combining European perspective on Philip K. Dick’s paranoia and sharp playfulness of Chuck “Johnny B. Goode” Berry. The first readers have noticed that the imaginary world is tightly constructed – “every detail has meaning, everything is in its place”. Fresh and original view on the rock & roll mythology included. Each written in different genre environment, the three novels are connected by pivotal, subtly woven, themes – finding own identity, personal self-actualization, struggle of eros & thanatos - as well as prominent stylistic trademarks: carefully crafted structure, poetic realism, juicy dialogues and bittersweet humor. The texts are vibrating with echoes of pop / rock & roll music.
