My Review Philosophy When I was active at Goodreads, a friend wrote to ask me why I gave all my books 5 out of 5 stars, and here's my response: It's a valid question, and the answer is that if I don't like a book, I don't review it. Believe me, there are plenty of books that I think deserve one or two stars, but I steer clear. This is a matter of personal philosophy. I'm happy to "recommend" books I love, and see no reason to slam the ones I don't. The market for novels is so abysmal that I'm more about helping the authors I enjoy than doing anything to hurt the ones that aren't my cup of tea. Clearly, I wasn't destined to be a book critic!
