On September 3rd 1939 Britain declared war on Germany. By mid June the enemy had swept through Europe and into France. The decision that had to be made by Channel Islanders was, whether or not to evacuate their children to the safety of the mainland. This would probably be one of the hardest decisions that many parents would ever have to make. My mother was one of those parents who decided that sending her children to safety was the right thing to do. This story is about my life as an evacuee.
