16 de septiembre de 1897. Diez de la mañana. Alrededor de la Alameda, en la ciudad de México, una agitada muchedumbre espera el inicio del desfile del dÃa de la Independencia. Todos claman, devotos, cuando la comitiva del presidente Porfirio DÃaz aparece al frente de la columna. Todos salvo un hombre, Arnulfo Arroyo, que ya se abre paso entre la multitud. Su propósito es llegar hasta la comitiva, esquivar la escolta, asesinar al dictador. No obstante, abrumado aún por la borrachera del dÃa anterior, Arroyo se abalanza sobre el tirano, le asesta un golpe y es detenido de inmediato. Los interrogantes que el caso plantea no van a ser fáciles de responder: conocemos al autor material del fallido atentado, pero ¿quiénes son los autores intelectuales?; sabemos que el malogrado tiranicida descansa tras las rejas, pero ¿quiénes deciden su fatÃdico destino? / September 16, 1897.
