I would say that my life changed as soon as those gunshots went off, but in reality everything changed the moment Leo and Greyson loaded that decapitated body into the truck back in Donnely. Now I am in a place I do not recognize, with people I had once seen as enemies. They are telling me that all of this is up to me, and here I am just wishing I was in my basement with a quil between my fingers. Though I know what cards I've been dealt; I know I never had a say in this. I wasn't born free like I had always thought. I had been created for a purpose and if I want to keep Killian safe - I need to do this. It has always been about him. The Ghost and the Darkness Volume 1, begins immediately where Fallocaust left off. Reaver and Killian have left Aras behind and are now deep in the greywastes hiding from King Silas with the help of some unlikely friends. The Ghost and the Darkness Vol. 2 continues with Reaver and Elish desperately trying to find Killian and Jade. Forced to work together, they scour the northern greywastes for clues of their whereabouts. Though finding the two boys isn't as simple as following a trail. Something happened to them that no one expected. And as Reaver and Elish search the greywastes they both come to the grim realization... that they have been betrayed.

After months of being separated, Reaver and Killian are finally together; but their happiness is short lived. Unbeknownst to Killian, Reaver is struggling with his own inner demons, demons that threaten to not only rip Reaver apart, but their entire relationship as well. Unfortunately though, it’s not only demons they have to worry about. Reaver and Killian are going to quickly realize that the plaguelands hold to them a threat that the greywastes and Skyfall have never seen; a dangerous creature that has discovered just how valuable immortals are. And back in Skyfall, the Dekker family is about to be tested in ways they’ve never been before. Chimeras who were once seen as unstoppable will be stopped, those deemed shatterproof will be shattered, and the higher these men are, the longer and harder they’ll fall. But though Jade has been having fun being involved in Elish’s plans, the more time that goes on, the more Jade realizes there is something wrong with his husband. Elish isn’t acting like his normal self, and not only that, Jade suspects that the new King of Skyfall is hiding something from him. And far away from Skyfall, Reaver and Killian are both trapped in a distant land, with an unexpected third party. Not only do they have to try and make their way back to civilization in a land of mutated monsters and proxy worms, but Reaver finds himself drawn off of their planned path towards someone unknown: a suspected born immortal who has left them a trail of macabre bread crumbs.

There is no denying it now, something is happening to Elish. Jade doesn’t know what is going on with his husband, he only knows Elish is hiding something from him – and that the new king’s mind is slipping. Too bad there’s nothing Jade can do about it, considering they’re both prisoners of an insane clone named Malachy. Not only prisoners, but the two of them, along with Reno, Caligula, and Ceph, are now forced to play the insane man’s game. It is a game that could leave the mortals dead, and the immortals trapped for god knows how long. Which would be just fine with Jack, Kessler, and Nero, who have their own plans back in Skyfall. Meanwhile, unaware of the chaos his family is in, King Silas is still running around the greywastes and the plaguelands with Sky. He is loving spending time with the man he’d obsessed over for so long, but the O.L.S isn’t perfect – far from it, actually. Sky is showing weird behaviour, and every once in a while, none other than Perish appears warning Silas that Sky is up to something. But Sky says it’s just a glitch, and that Silas should ignore Perish. Sky wouldn’t lie to him… right? And miles away from the greywastes, Reaver has found himself inside of a mysterious tower surrounded by an abandoned city. The owner of this skyscraper is an old man named Bastian, who claims to be the person who’d created born immortals. Naturally, Reaver doesn’t care, but Bastian has a secret that will have Reaver and Killian stopping at nothing to return to Skyfall – along with two nightcrawlers just as desperate to find the city.

Things have gone from bad to worse. Dr. Bastian Gibel is determined to right the wrong he’d made centuries before, and while the old man works on a way to eradicate immortals once and for all, the threat of the proxy worms grows stronger. Skyfall is in a dire place, but even with their world falling apart around them, the royal family is still fighting amongst themselves. And not just the royal family, Reaver and Killian are on opposing sides, with Killian defending Elish, and Reaver defending Silas. Both of them think they’re doing the right thing, but only time will reveal the consequences of their actions, and what permanent damage it will do to, not only the family, but their relationship. But with Skyfall acting as ground zero to numerous growing threats, including rogue genetically engineered proxy worms, and Bastian’s rebellion, relationships and family troubles may be the least of their worries. Not to mention Elish’s mental state continues to deteriorate. The cold chimera’s moments of clarity are getting few and far between, and it’s a race against time to figure out just what is wrong with him. Elish needs to find out fast, because the proxy worms that he’s bred to obey him and Jade have developed their own nefarious plans – plans that will bring to Skyfall… a new king; a king that was once a man that some people knew quite well.
