Bulletproof Vestments
2015
A former gang member has tracked down the man who ratted out his brother 10 years ago. It's time for some good old-fashioned revenge, except the man in question is crippled. And he's a priest. And no one's going to let him go down without a fight. In this first novelette of the Father Jay series, Jane Lebak introduces the world of a man who's lived through the worst life has to offer, and yet somehow after losing his heart and losing his body, struggles to offer hope to others.

The Boys Upstairs
2010
Three homeless children. Two estranged brothers. One last chance. Kevin Farrell is a jaded police officer trying to save three homeless children. But it’s three nights before Christmas, and the only one he can ask for help is his brother Jay, a disabled priest. The catch? He and his brother have been estranged because after all the evil he’s seen, Kevin cannot believe in God. Only now, to save these homeless kids, with temperatures below zero and falling, Kevin knows it’s going to take both him and his brother working together, but first they’ll have to mend the breach between them. The Boys Upstairs is a novella-length work (not as long as a novel, but longer than a short story) about hope, brotherhood, and second chances.

A Different Heroism
2016
Jay and Kevin are back in the third of the Father Jay stories! Something has to break in Father Jay’s endless series of commitments, and it’s turning out to be his health. Already disabled after driving over a land mine in Iraq, Jay is stretched to the max running a soup kitchen, sheltering homeless teens, and saying the occasional funeral for a fallen police officer. His parish is right in the middle of disputed gang territory, and the violence keeps spilling over into the church. An agnostic cop, Kevin would love nothing more than for his brother Jay to leave the Church, but not this way: not feet first in a box. So Kevin offers his help to Jay, giving him respite while he regains his balance. But when a new kid shows up at the rectory asking for a place to stay, he’s both brothers’ worst nightmares. He’s the orphaned son of a murdered cop. And unless Jay can stop him, he’s heading into the teeth of a gang war.
