In 2027, following the tectonic and volcanic activity that led to the destruction of Iceland, and catastrophic earthquakes and eruptions across the northern hemisphere, the world is facing the rapid onset of a volcanic winter. The Tuath Dé Danann travel through time to help stop the effects of the ash cloud strangling the planet, and succeed in deploying the sword of light, the Claíomh Solais, with the help of the McNamara family. The Claíomh Solais, a powerful laser designed centuries into the future, is not powerful enough to dissipate the ash cloud; it will take thousands of devices to achieve the impossible. The travellers and McNamara family, who have who have joined together under the banner of the re-constituted Na Fianna, must now face an even greater challenge – the Claíomh Solais must be replicated if there is any chance that the dense ash cloud shrouding the planet can be cleared. This fast-paced adventure takes Na Fianna across Europe in the hope of finding the necessary technology to stave off disaster. The challenges of harnessing the futuristic technology are significant, even more so while facing opposition from the most powerful men on earth and defending Ireland in the face of invasion.
